AMALFI COAST - MAIORI, POSITANO & AMALFI

MAIORI

After eighteen hours of travelling, we arrived in Maiori exhausted.....nothing that a good night's sleep couldn't help.  Maiori is one of the smaller towns along the Amalfi coast and our apartment is right across the road from one of the many beaches which border the Tyrrhenian Sea.  Maiori and its next door neighbour Minori, are fishing villages.  You see the fishermen along the pier making or mending their fishing nets when you go to take the ferry.  Our apartment is very central, within steps of the supermarket and restaurants, but the area is very noisy.

We did not do much exploring of Maiori as we wanted to see the larger cities.  Here are a few pictures of Maiori.

This is a view from our apartment.

Looking up the main walking street.

Grounds of an historical building.

Cultivation of crops taking place on the side of the hill/mountain.

This one is for my dental hygienist.  This is our first course; we forgot to get the waiter to take a picture of our second course.  The restaurant is on the main walking street.

POSITANO

Our visit to Positano and Amalfi was much more adventurous.  Positano is beautiful; in fact, all the towns along the Amalfi coast are beautiful, but I liked Positano the most.  Rather than taking transportation up the mountain, we decided to take the steps.  That might not have been such a good decision for two older ladies but we didn't think steps could go on forever either.  Every time we thought the steps had ended, we'd round a curve and there were more steps.  We climbed what felt like over one thousand steps but got some great views along the way.  Here are some pictures of Positano.  We walked back down the road to get some different views.

A view of Positano as the ferry pulled in.

Picture of my friend at the top right of the stairs.  We may have been half way up and this picture may have been an excuse to stop for a breather.

A view of the city as we were ascending the stairs.

The entrance to someone's home along those stairs.

Another excuse for a breather; this time, I'm at the top taking the picture.

View of the some of the stairs of another path.

Part way down our descent after we had stopped for lunch

View of the city on our way back down.

Another 'lookout' area to stop for a breath.

View of the beach area (waaaay out at the edge of the water....think beach chairs and you may see it) on our way back down.

AMALFI

We stopped in Amalfi on the way back from Positano.  Needless to say, we were too tired to do anything that involved walking up a hill or stairs.  Here are a few pictures of Amalfi.

Pulling into the Amalfi pier.

The three pictures above are all views of Amalfi from the ferry.

Amalfi Cathedral in the plaza just up from the pier.  No, we did not climb the stairs to go in.

This is more of what we did - having a gelato to cool us down.

As we were sailing out of Amalfi, this tall ship was anchored just off the coast.

These were the first two days of our stay in Maiori.  My pictures don't do justice to the beauty of the Amalfi Coast but I hope it gives you a small window into this part of Italy.
